The smoke will make its way into practically every corner of your household.

And the stench; this will be especially hard to get rid of, especially if it has crept into your furniture, your couch, curtains, and everywhere around the house.

For heavy smokers and households that have a smoker, air purifiers are a must. These devices will get rid of the odors very effectively, while also eliminating the harmful particles from the air. Most air purifiers have several stages of filtration, including a HEPA filter of some sorts, an activated carbon filter, and a pre-filter.

Activated carbon filters are especially useful for removing odors. The only drawback is that these needs to regularly replaced or rinsed.

In this article, we will go over some of the best air purifiers for removing cigarette and weed smoke.

Best Air Purifiers to Remove Weed and Cigarette Smoke

These purifiers are all of a high-quality standard, but if you want to remove the smoke and the odors completely, you will have to be prepared to spend. Though there are some very good options for the money, they are offered, and we have collected some of the best here.

Here are 5 of the best air purifiers for cigarette and weed smoke removal.

1. Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier

The Winix 5500-2 air purifier is a crowd favorite, and for good reasons. It offers the best of two worlds – it has a permanent True HEPA filter and a washable activated carbon filter. There is also the PlasmaWave filter, which gets rid of the odors and allergens effectively.

The True HEPA filter is truly the best filter for removing all sorts of harmful particles from the air. It is effective for removing 99.97% of airborne pollutants, including dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and other allergens. These allergens that it removes are as small as 0.3 microns.

Then, there is the washable AOC activated carbon filter. Even though you will have to wash it regularly, it provides top-notch performance when it comes to odor removal. The activated carbon granules work effectively against the odorous particles, removing them entirely. What you will be left with is a clean, odor-free air without cigarette or weed smoke.

A very nice feature of the purifier is also that it has a Smart Sensor design, which makes sure the purifier works almost automatically, as it detects air metrics, based on which the purifier then starts cleaning. For a silent mode, the Sleep mode is fantastic as it keeps the noise levels to a minimum.

CADR rates the area of effectiveness of this purifier to 360 square feet. It will cover even the largest of your rooms, and remove the smoke and odors effectively.

Although it doesn’t come without faults, those who don’t have the time to clean the activated carbon filter regularly will find it hard to get the best performance out of it. Still, it is a great filter if you keep up the maintenance levels.

PROS

  • Powerful True HEPA filter eliminates 99.97% of airborne pollutants.
  • The AOC activated carbon filter is permanent and won’t have to be replaced.
  • Smart Sensor feature allows the purifier to work automatically.
  • Big area coverage.
  • Silent mode is included.

CONS

  • The washable activated carbon filter will need to be rinsed regularly.
  • The True HEPA filter will require a replacement after some time.

2. Hathaspace Smart True HEPA Air Purifier

Another good option for air purifiers for eliminating cigarette smoke is the Hathaspace Smart air purifier. It has inbuilt a True HEPA filter, which is effective for eliminating almost all of the airborne pollutants. In fact, it will remove 99.97% of particles, including cigarette and weed smoke particles.

Essentially, this purifier has 5 stages of filtration. The first filter is the nano-cold catalyst filter, which is the pre-filter that removes the larger particles from the air. Then, the air goes through the cellular activated carbon filter, which is effective for removing odors, smoke, and volatile components from the air. For bacteria and germ removal, there is the antibacterial filter.

Then there is the True HEPA filter, and the last option, which you can manually control, is the ionizer. This ionizer releases negative ions, which electrically charged particles and odors and makes them easier to trap. It is the purifier’s last line of defense, and you can turn it off and on, based on your preferences.

Even after prolonged use, this purifier will still work effectively. People prefer this purifier because it provides one of the complete purifying experiences out there. One thing to keep in mind is that these filters will need replacing after some time.

3. LEVOIT Air Purifier with True HEPA

For tackling smoke, odors, pet hair, dust, mold, and more, the LEVOIT air purifier is a very affordable option, but very effective. It features a three-stage filtration: the pre-filter, the True HEPA filter, and the activated carbon filter. The first filter will collect the largest particles from the air, while the True HEPA filter will eliminate most of the allergens and particles (99.97%).

Lastly, there is an activated carbon filter, which is arguably the most important when it comes to smoke removal. The purifier effectively improves the indoor air quality and completely removes the smoke and odors from the air.

The HEPA and activated carbon filters will need to be regularly replaced. This can represent a cost, especially in the long-term. But what makes this filter so effective is the powerful HEPA filtration. This filter will clear almost all of the unwanted particles from the air. Despite the small size, this purifier will work very fast – up to four times faster than some other filters.

The filter comes with a 2-year warranty, which means that you will be able to contact the company if you have some issues during that time. The noise levels are extremely low – sometimes, they don’t even reach 25DB.

Besides, the purifier features a very nice, sleek design. You will have to know when to replace the filters, as it has a reminder that will tell you to do that.

It has a True HEPA filter, like many air purifiers. As we already know, this filter is very effective for removing pollutants from the air. Then, the filter also has a charcoal filter that works against odors and smoke.

Lastly, there is the UV-C light technology filter that removes airborne bacteria, viruses, germs, and mold spores. If you want to remove viruses and bacteria off completely while also getting rid of the smoke, this purifier won’t fail you.

The purifier works in small to moderate spaces, as it is effective for about 167 square feet of space at most. It has a CADR rating of Dust 118, Pollen 125, and Smoke 108.

One positive of this filter is the relatively quiet operation. It has different speeds of operation, and it works the most quietly at the slowest mode, and you can turn it up if you need stronger filtration. This filter is also relatively small, so you can put it practically anywhere in your house, even if you don’t have that much space.

PROS

  • Compact and can be moved anywhere.
  • It removes bacteria and viruses.
  • Tower design.
  • Relatively quiet operation.

CONS

  • Not as strong as some other purifiers.
  • Might overheat if used for prolonged periods.

There is also an additional purifying option, called the UV/Anion function. The last filter can be turned on and off, depending on the needs.

But, for germ and virus removal, it might be wise to leave this UV filter on. It kills of bacteria and viruses from the air, completing the cleaning process of the purifier. First, the air goes through the pre-filter, where the larger particles are removed.

Then, the True HEPA filter starts working wonders. Lastly, there is the activated carbon filter, which gets rid of the odors and the smoke.

Depending on the use, the filters will need to be replaced at some point. If you are a heavy smoker, for example, the filters will last you for a couple of months. The good thing is that the purifier will remind you when to replace the filters in the purifier, when the buttons will start blinking.

The activated carbon filter will suffer the most, if you want to remove the smoke from the air regularly.

There are 5 speeds to choose from; at the lowest speeds, the filter will work slowly and quietly; for stronger filtration processes, you can turn up the filtration to level 5. The filter is ozone free which makes it ideal for home and office. All you will be left with is clean, quality air.

PROS

  • Very compact and can be placed just about anywhere.
  • Quality filtration.

CONS

  • Not as powerful as some filters (although very powerful for its size.)

Hi! Did a search on best purification systems/ devices/ etc for cigs and found ya’s! I really dig your layout and how you guys are straight shooters & give the info we look for and care about in a simple but accurate fashion. Thank you.

    Question,
Are dehumidifiers just as effective? I have a couple real good ones in my basement but I’m unsure whether to get an air purifier or what.

I’m a smoker who lives in a 120yr old 7,000sqft home with my family of 5. I’m the only smoker. I never smoke in the house and normally smoke outside or underneath my fireplaces.
    At times – although seldom,
when it’s windy, the wind will blow down the fireplace and some smoke gets back in the house.

All and every tip, trick, advice, guidance, hack, idea, honesty is very much obliged.

    Money is scarce
